There’s No Time Like the Present to Start Planning Spring Projects!
In the spring, summer and fall of 2020 Heinen handled a record number of new outdoor projects. 2020 has been a year where most everyone has been spending more time in and around their homes and, no surprise, that extra time at home led to homeowners taking action on projects that would make their homes more comfortable – and, outdoor living areas were no exception. The crews at Heinen have been busy with projects such as new landscaping, new patios, outdoor kitchens, planting new trees, shrubs and bushes – and, installing state-of-the-art sprinkler systems. With the global pandemic of 2020 home has become more important than ever. We expect 2021 to be just as active as the project schedule at Heinen is quickly filling up.
First: Fix any Ongoing Lawn or Landscape Issues
An initial step in outdoor living planning is to identify any landscape problems or issues that need to be addressed. For example, during heavy spring rains does your lawn tend get swampy or have standing water? Or, maybe your yard slopes towards the house instead of away leading to basement wetness and foundation leaks. In both cases Heinen can help. From installing French drains, or adding a dry creek bed, to altering the lawn slope, or building retaining walls, there are a number of aesthetically pleasing methods to eliminate property drainage issues.
Next: Develop a Landscape and Hardscape Plan
Now is the time to dream a little. Elements to consider for your future backyard oasis might include a Techo-bloc patio, an outdoor kitchen, custom lighting or new tree and shrub plantings. Water features such as a pond or bubbling fountains can add a calming background soundtrack to the backyard.
Expanding the functional living space of your outdoor living area with an extended patio, built in natural seating, a meandering pathway or even an outdoor kitchen are great ways to make family time at home more enjoyable. Planning ahead also allows preordering trees, shrubs, and other plants as well as reserving custom colors for patio stone and pavers that might be in short supply during the busy spring and summer seasons. Also, the sooner you start planning your outdoor project, the sooner your landscape improvements can be complete!
Additionally, some spring blooming plants actually must be planted in the fall. Tulips, daffodils, crocus and other bulbs start their growing process during the colder months so it’s essential to get them planted in the fall.
