Mission Hills Sunken Garden Breathes New Life

Recently, Heinen Landscape had a chance to help breathe new life into the weather-worn Mission Hills micro-park know as Sunken Garden. The all-inclusive renovation project included new landscaping (with new flowers, shrubs and sod), hardscaping (including a reimagined water feature) and an irrigation system installed by Heinen. All told, and including project planning, the renovation took well over a year to complete, but one will see the results were clearly well worth the wait!

The Mission Hills Sunken Garden park, originally designed by J.C. Nichols, had struggled the past few years with engineering issues and upkeep of the garden – much of this a result of Kansas City’s roller-coaster weather shifts. Thanks to generous donations from the Mission Hills community and the good work of multiple local contractors (including Heinen Landscape & Irrigation) the Sunken Garden now has a plant-sustaining irrigation system, lush green grass, beautiful new landscaping, a functioning reflection pool (complete with bubbling fountains) and a freshly cleaned and weather-guarded viewing bench – perfect for quietly observing the Garden’s reclaimed beauty!

“We’ve enjoyed being able to help bring this piece of Kansas City history back to life,” said Heinen Landscape owner, Dave Heinen. “We’re really happy with the end result and we hope Mission Hills residents enjoy it for years to come.”

Located just north of 63rd Street in Mission Hills, the Sunken Garden is the perfect place to make plans to take a drive by and see this outdoor gem restored to its original beauty – complete with tranquil water sounds and eye-catching greenery.  And, if you have an outdoor project you’ve been dreaming of starting (or completing!), give Debbie at Heinen a call at (913) 432-5011 for a complimentary consultation!
