Amazing Projects, Incredible Customers
Incredible landscape makeovers and one-of-a-kind hardscape creations were the heart and soul of Heinen’s 2021 project list. It was a year happily spent hard at work bringing design plans to 3-dimensional life in neighborhoods throughout the Kansas City metro area and beyond.
Each project is unique – and all have a host of specific challenges and unique demands that require the unwavering dedication and commitment of Heinen’s talented design and build teams. From the daily challenges of lawn and plant-life maintenance, to custom drainage installations and intricate zoned irrigation systems, all require consistent performance and diligent problem solving to ensure each project turns out just right.
Design-build projects like custom patios and outdoor kitchen installations call for creativity, flexibility, and plenty of hard – and heavy – work! From natural stone retaining walls to native Kansas City plantings, Heinen spent 2021 doing what we love – creating unique outdoor spaces for the best customers in Kansas City!
Spring
Every year, the promise of spring is first announced by the gorgeous tulips and daffodils declaring winter’s end. These bulbs are planted by Heinen teams in the fall and rise in the spring to everyone’s delight!
Gardening is on many homeowner minds, so during the spring, you’ll find Heinen designing and planting many luscious home garden installations. When the heavy rains arrive, customers can count on Heinen to properly grade their yards and install drainage to prevent basement flooding and plant damage.
One of the spring projects Heinen tackled in 2021 was a Westwood Hardscape Overhaul. Heinen removed a worn-out deck and installed durable, modern manufactured stone from Unilock. The Heinen design even included an area in the renovation for the homeowner’s dogs to use when nature calls! The family reports they’re extremely happy with the finished installation – and already have more plans for future projects!
In April, Heinen celebrated Earth Month by sharing the steps taken to reduce our carbon footptrint and be more eco-friendly. From recycled plant material usage to energy conservation, Heinen is proud to care for the greater outdoors in more ways than one. Summer
Do you know which plants best complement the unique terrain of your property? Heinen shared an insightful piece on how to use the online Plant Catalog created by Heinen specifically for Kansas City homeowners featuring plants, native grasses, shrubs, flower and trees selected for their ability to thrive in Kansas City!
Another popular summer landscape request was property irrigation. Lush, green lawns are the direct result of correct watering, vital aeration, and diligent weed and fertilizer treatments. And when it comes to automatic, underground sprinkler systems, no one knows the best configuration for specific property layouts like Heinen.
This summer Heinen demonstrated the importance of hardscape detail work. In one Mission Hills Patio Makeover, Heinen designed and installed a stunning new patio dining and entertainment area at the home of a local restaurateur. Complete with bench-wall seating and in-wall lighting, the patio was constructed with Techo-bloc manufactured stone pavers that imitate natural earth tones while also being durable for years to come.
Manufactured stone was a popular choice for customer hardscape designs this summer. With a wide variety of textures and colors, Techo-Bloc and Unilock were used to create unique backyard spaces with a modern – and durable – finish.
Fall
Speaking of patios, Heinen featured several different customer designs in the article “Perfect Fall Patios with Heinen.” From warm and enchanting fire-pits to graceful, refined hosting spaces, Heinen has both the knowledge and experience to craft your unique patio to in your one-of-a-kind style!
One intriguing project in Fall 2021 had Heinen out healing a natural ecosystem. It’s not unusual for bodies of water to experience certain amounts of soil erosion. The good news is native plants, trees, and shrubs with deep root systems can stabilize a shoreline and protect it from erosion. In this Mission Hills Land Reclamation Project, Heinen restored the pond shoreline and replanted native landscaping to prevent erosion and help restore a natural ecosystem.
Winter
If you thought landscaping ends early fall, you might reconsider. Early winter months are the ideal time to prune trees, plant bulbs, and care for your lawn with aeration and fertilization.
With shorter days and longer periods of dark, a popular winter landscape priority is exterior lighting. Short winter days are a reminder of the importance of lighting for protecting your property from unwanted visitors and illuminating walkways for safety from slips – not to mention lighting your home’s natural architectural features.
